A Few Words About

Our Team

Our chess teachers are passionate about Chess and are equally experienced in working with both individuals and groups.

Roman Mitra, National Master and UK Chess Coaching chess coach

Roman Mitra

National Master (NM), Chess coach

Roman has been playing chess competitively since he was a child — a journey that took him all the way to representing England, and to winning the London Junior Chess Championship twice. Now a National Master with a 2700 blitz rating on Chess.com, he brings genuine elite-level playing strength to every lesson.

But what students notice most is his patience. Roman coaches players of all ages and levels, and several of his students have gone on to win tournaments of their own.

Whether you’re a complete beginner or an intermediate player looking to sharpen your game, Roman tailors every lesson to the individual in front of him — building not just stronger chess players, but more confident, resilient thinkers.

With eight years of coaching experience, Jonathan has worked with students at every stage of their chess journey, from absolute beginners to elite juniors, helping each one build a genuine understanding of the game rather than just memorised lines.

What Our Students Have to Say

Rohit has been having lessons with Roman for the last year and a half. He makes lessons enjoyable and works extremely well with challenging kids. I've seen his rating rise from 1200 to 1900 on lichess and hope that he gets to a good level in the near future.

I've been having lessons with UKCC for the last year. I wanted to have coaching because I started watching The Queens Gambit on Netflix and thought it was incredible how a young girl can have such great ambitions. My rating has improved gradually and I'm really enjoying my lessons!
Shereen, private coaching student and chess testimonial
Shereen, 18
From London, England
My son really enjoys his lessons with Roman. He liked how he had to think of variations and that Roman saw lots of combinations before he did. Roman took the time to analyse some games in advance. Recommended and we'll definitely do more lessons this summer.
Mihir, junior private coaching student and chess testimonial
Anil, Dad of Mihir aged 9

My rating has improved from 1000 to 1100 in just over a month. I'm happy with how Michael gives me a tailored lesson which allows me to understand more by the day
Nach, 26
Adult Improver
Even though he is already an intermediate/advanced, player he still learned a lot from Roman in his first online lesson. He went through some of his recent games before the class, showing preparation and managed to recommend training ideas and move his development further
